BIO: Axel came from a horrible hoarding situation in Madison, AL. 50+ dogs were discovered in a house but only 39 made it out, some too sick or too aggressive to be handled. Axel has come a long way in the 3 mos that he’s been in foster care. He still has a long way to go. He is scared of hands but is fine with feet. He handles hands better when his foster mom or dad are sitting down.
Axel loves to play with the other younger dogs and will follow their lead and watches them. He is not leash trained but will go in a crate to eat his food and when we have to go out he’ll go in a crate. He sleeps in a gated room at night with several others and will not make a mess and uses the doggie door.
What Axel needs is a fenced in yard, possibly a doggie door and someone to have the patience to give him time to understand that he is a pet and it’s ok to be petted and loved on. No children they would make him too nervous but people coming into the home would be fine and he can be trusted in the home without being in a crate he is not destructive. Please only serious applicants that will give him the time to adjust and learn to be the pet he should be.
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.
We have now been approved to adopt and transport into the state of Massachusetts but there are guidelines the organization and adopters must follow. If adopting and before filling out the adoption form please e mail aadrpresident@gmail.com to get the guidelines and expenses that must be followed.
Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.
