SLOOPY was adopted out for 5 months and returned when the owner had back surgery and just could not keep up with a puppy any more. SLOOPY is 9 months old and is loving life. He loves going for rides, laying on laps, and going for long walks. SLOOPY wants nothing more than to go with you anywhere you go. He also loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home, even the 100# Lab and the 80# Shepard mix. SLOOPY loves to play both inside and out, so a fenced yard is a must for SLOOPY.
SLOOPY does well with the cat, but will chase it. He has a healthy respect for the cat and keeps his distance so that he won’t be swatted. SLOOPY is crate trained and he is doing well with his housebreaking and knows the “go pee” and “go poop” commands. He will of course have accidents until he learns the schedule in his new home. SLOOPY is just a great dog and deserves a wonderful home. If you are ready for tons of puppy kisses and lots of play time, fill out an application and list SLOOPY as your forever love. .

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
