BIO:

I am one of 10 puppies – my mommy is Sparkle (b/t dachshund mix) and they say my daddy was a “traveling salesman”. A lot of people that meet me think I might be a dachshund and Italian Greyhound mix! I guess it might be my long legs and floppy ears. Either way, I am a happy and playful puppy- I like to chew on things and I liked to climb in laps and give kisses! I like to hop around and pounce on things; my foster family says sometimes I like to act like a kitty cat, whatever that is. I have also heard someone call me a very small miniature deer with long legs that likes to hop. I came to North Carolina with my sibling- my brother Flash. He was adopted and found his furever home; now I am looking for mine. I’m not afraid of other dogs, but the much bigger ones tend to make me a bit nervous. However, I love to play with little dogs or even medium-size dogs, like my foster sister a hound dog mix. I love to play with them and jump all over them. I can be a bit shy at times but I am working on my socialization skills with trips to the dog park and to Petsmart. I like to play with toys, rip up paper, and chew on sticks. I love to run around in the yard because I am very fast. I know I would do real well in a race or agility game. I really would love to have a fenced in yard so I can run freely to burn off some of my puppy energy. I go outside to do my business most of the time, I have just not learned to “ask” to go out, but when I am taken out regularly I go outside. I am also leashed trained and love to go for walks but a jogging buddy would be even better.  All I need is my own family to love me, play with me and let me cuddle in a lap or two.  I’m very active, a little cautious and shy but friendly. I am a bit wary of small children but older children are fine. If you take me home with you- I will bring you a lot of love and laughter and be your best friend forever!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
