BIO

Jillian was found as a stray and taken to animal control where she stayed until she was bailed out by AADR.   You can see from her pictures that she hadn't been a stray for long or maybe she made friends with the chef at a good restaurant in town.  Jilly is pretty overweight, but she has started a diet and exercise program in her foster home and is making excellent progress.  Jillian had her teeth cleaned and lost several, but she has no trouble eating dry dog food.  She is in good health despite her weight.

When Jillian first arrived in her foster home she was shy and did not like being handled.  After a day or so she realized that nobody was going to harm her and has become very friendly and loves to be petted.  She will even roll over so her belly can be rubbed.  Jillian does not like to be picked up and carried, but she will scoot up the dog steps to sit beside you on the couch or even accept a quick lift onto the couch or into the car.  She loves to go for a ride.

Jilly gets along with other dogs, large and small.  She also does fine with cats.  She is doing well with her house training, but if she is left for long periods she will need to use a pee pad.  She would do great with a dog door.  Jillian sleeps quietly all night in her dog bed until it is time to get up and go outside.  She sleeps in her bed or favorite comfy chair most of the day too, but is always happily wagging her tail at the door when her foster mom gets home.

Jillian's adopter will have to remain committed to helping her get to a healthy weight by keeping her meal portions small, limiting treats, and getting her out for walks.  If these recommendations are followed, Jilly will soon be slim and trim and feeling good.

If you are looking for a laid back little lady to take strolls with, Jillian is the one for you!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
