BIO

Meet Stymie! He came from East TN when his owners decided that they just couldn’t give him all that he needed so they reached out to rescue. They were a busy family and Stymie was being left alone a lot and he just wants to be with his family. He would love a family or individual that would take him every place they went. Stymie is very devoted to his human and is very loving.  He does great with other dogs once he gets to know them.  He is very playful and thinks he is a big dog.

Stymie is housetrained if taken out regular or if you have a dog door he will go out on his own.  He likes to sleep in the big bed with his humans and will sleep all night long.  Stymie does take a bit to warm up to strangers but if you give him time and maybe a treat or too he’ll accept you as a friend.  Stymie has been around young children and doesn't mind them after getting to know them.  He doesn't play with them, just watches them play.  He will play with older children with his ball or toys. He loves his doggy toys and playing tug!

Our wish for Stymie is to have a fenced in yard with another younger dachshund or two.  He has a lot if energy and loves to run free in a fenced in yard and chase his foster bothers.
With just one beautiful  blue eye,  his eye site isn't great, which is why we believe he is cautious meeting new people.  I have let my friends and family hold him for a bit and that seems to make him comfortable with someone new.

Are you willing to bring Stymie into your life to love forever?

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Stymie...KY

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
