Update, 5-13-13:

Tyson arrived to our home last night. Not only did the transporters fall hard for him, so have we. He is an absolute love. He curled up on my lap on the ride home and has snuggled with me every chance he gets. He loves to sleep in the big bed and got right down this morning to go do his business outside. Loves the fenced in back yard to explore every inch.  We are teaching him to fetch the ball. Right now he just likes to run after it and lay down!  Tyson takes his medicine without any problem at all. He is getting along with dachshund and two large labs.  If you are looking for a snuggle bug who just loves to be with you, Tyson is your man!

Tyson#2 was turned over to us by a family that just didn’t have time for him any longer.

Tyson is a very loving dog after he has time to adjust to his new environment but until then he can be a little shy this is due to no socialization while he was a puppy but he’s young enough that he can learn. After a short time he will warm up to you and be just fine. He is learning to play with the other young dogs in the foster home and doing well. He is working out housetraining and doing very well with that.

He does like to sit on your lap or be with his humans either in the yard or in the chair watching TV or reading.

After getting into rescue it was discovered that Tyson needed to be on phenobarbital for seizures. This is an inexpensive medicine and he has had no seizures since being on the medicine and takes it twice a day. Please don’t let his “special needs” stop you from adopting this “special” boy.

Tyson is sweet, devoted and loyal, what more can you ask for in a dachshund. Please give him a home, fenced yard and another dachshund is perfered.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
