BIO

Bubba has been with us for 2 1/2 months and has adjusted well. He is fully house trained and sleeps all nite in his crate. He gets along well with our 3 doxies but prefers to take his naps in his cozy bed by himself. He does not like to be bothered when in his cozy bed or crate so you must let him come out on his own. He will do well with or without other dogs. He loves to take walks and will get very excited when he sees his harness.

Bubba is a dog that will attach himself to one person so in our house he has chosen Dad as his favorite. He will cry for a bit if you leave but will settle down and await your return. He will come to anyone for a nice massage or treat. He will also come over so he can sit with you. He needs to get to know you before he will trust you so just give him his space. He should not go to a home with small children because he can be a bit ornery at times, what older man isn't???

Shortly after Bubba came to live with us he had an issue with his back which is very common with Doxies. His back was sore and he was walking funny. He was immediately vetted and was back to normal within several weeks. We crated him and medicated him as ordered. It will be very important to monitor his activity for his lifetime so he can continue to enjoy his life. He cannot jump or use stairs, this will help prevent further issues. He must not become overweight.

Bubba is beautiful older Doxie who has had so many changes in this last year. He so deserves a home that can give him the love and care that he truly deserves. He is really a sweetheart and will make an awesome pet for the right person or family!!  Please consider giving him that home.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
