Hello everyone! My name is a Raisin and my foster mom says that I am a very special 5 year old girl. She calls me a Katrina dog, even though my troubles began 2 years after the storm. I lived with a lady and her children who asked a church member to keep me for a few months while she made repairs to her house. This kind church member took me in and kept me for months. She helped me lose some of the weight that I have to lose ( I know, I know I need to lose more). She also, helped me with my manners and housebreaking .

My original family was unable to take me back into their home. My new mom said that she would keep me. I lived with her until she was told by FEMA that she had to move out of her FEMA mobile home. My new mom luckily found a rental but it didn't allow dogs so she knew that she had to find a place for me. Lucky for me she didn't throw me away. She contacted rescue to see if they could take me. They could!

I am very good girl. I will go to the door to let you know that I need to go out but I don't always vocalize that. I like to bark at unfamiliar sounds and I insist on barking at the cat at my foster mom's house. I sleep with my foster parents, but can also sleep in my basket on the floor. I love to love on people and will sit with you all day if you let me. I do love to be petted and rubbed. I weigh 13 pounds and need to lose a few more before my girlish figure returns. I am heart worm negative and am spayed. I would really like to have another dog to play with.

You need to know that when I am taken to the vet you need to tell the vet to muzzle me. I don't like shots and will show my teeth. I also don't like to be startled and will snap the air if you startle me when trying to pick me up. For this reason, my foster mom feels that it is best that we go to a home with older children or no children. Children over 10 should be fine but please let them know that I don't like to be startled. My foster mom doesn't know if I am like this because the kids in my first home were not nice to me or what but it is something that we are all dealing with.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at SSDRadoptions@gmail.com

More about Raisin...MA

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
