BIO:  Jackson came from a horrible breeder that abused his breeding stock something terrible. For that reason he takes longer to make up to a man BUT within a day or two he’s fine with the women.  When he’s still not sure he can trust you he’ll cry or cower if you make quick hand/arm movements or you have something in your hands and make a motion close to him. Once he knows you will not hurt him he is the sweetest boy in the work he LOVES lap time and is a happy boy to the other dogs.

Jackson has been with us for close to a month now and he is fine with his foster mom and his foster dad. Both can pick him up and handle him and love on him. He loves treats. He is housebroken and will go out and do his business. He has not started to play with the other fosters but we are taking baby steps in the right direction.

I his foster mom cannot figure out how anyone could abuse an animal much less a poor boy like him who has not a mean bone in his body. At first he wasn’t sure about me and I had to throw a towel over him to get him out of the crate when I first brought him home but it was not long at all and he was wanting in my lap. If you want a bit of a challenge at first but then watch his personality come out then this is the boy for you. He would do best in a fenced in yard and another dog to show him the kind world in a short time he’ll be the perfect boy for you.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Jackson #4...AL

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
