BIO:  Heather came from TX where she was turned into a kill shelter by the owners or family of the owners.

We know that she was very well cared for because when we did a dental on her she lost no teeth and that means that she has been cared for in dental care when owned. She is quite the character. She does not act 12 yrs but that’s what we were told she was. She was playing with an 18 mos old so you can see she has a lot of life yet. She is housebroken to a doggie door, goes out and explores the yard, not afraid to bark at the neighbors if needed. She likes to pick her spot each night to sleep, sometimes in the big bed sometimes on the couch. She loves to eat!

Gets along with all the other fosters and happy to see her foster mom and dad but not afraid to get out of your reach if you want to pick her up….she is her OWN senior citizen!!

Please fenced in yard is best for this little girl.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Heather...PA

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
