He does have a calcified disk in his back from a previous injury but he can move just fine and is without pain he just needs to avoid stairs and jumping. I currently have him on glyco-flex and it really seems to help him. He does not even attempt the stairs and he asks to be put on the furniture with you he does not jump up on it himself. From Sprocket Hi, my name is Sprocket and my foster mommy says that I am the sweetest boy and she loves the way my tails is ALWAYS wagging. I just love to pet – belly rubs are my favorite. I sometimes rub on your feet just to get you to rub my belly with your foot. I sleep on a bed or blanket on the side of the big bed – I tried sleeping in the big bed but just can’t get comfortable there. I am a really good boy who has shown no bad behavior other than complaining to you when you take too long to get my food ready . I live with a lot of dogs right now but don’t really pay much attention to them so I could be either an only dog or live with others. My foster mommy thinks I would be great for an older person who is looking for a sweet calm boy who doesn’t need much training. I love to go for walks and when I get really happy I bounce like a bunny. If you are looking for someone to love you unconditionally then I am your boy all I ask for are lots of belly rubs in return.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
