BIO: UPDATE:

Hi my name is Sophie 8.   I am 4 years old and my foster mom and dad think I am the cutest little girl ever.  I am looking for my forever home with a family that will love me and take me on long walks, sit and snuggle to watch a movie, sleep in the “big bed” to keep their feet warm.  I love to ride in the car and always come when called.  I mind very well, am housebroken, just a very happy girl.  They like to crate me when I am left alone as I like to tear up pillows when I am alone.  I would also like to be the only dog in the family as I hate to share my attention.

We were told that Sophie had to be given up because the child has an illness. We just aren't sure if that was the reason because Sophie does need to be socialized more. She is not fond of her foster dad so we just don’t think she was around men at her owner’s home. While she’s fine with foster dad she will not sit with him or try to be friends. She is foster mom’s dog; she will follow her all over the house and wants to sleep in the big bed with foster mom.

We think the perfect home for Sophie is to be with a lady who either works from home or is newly retired and doesn't have many visitors or willing to take Sophie with her to properly socialize her. Fenced yard because she does love to be out in the yard with foster mom and hopefully will let Sophie sleep with you. She’s a great watch dog!!

Please give Sophie a lasting forever home.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
