BIO:
Muffin was found on the side of a rural back road by a good Samaritan who took her to the animal shelter. She was dirty, hungry, and tired. She had a bath and mostly slept and ate for the first few days, but still managed to charm everyone there. She is a tiny little lady with a very sweet personality. She lost all of her bottom teeth and most of her top ones when she had her dental cleaning. She is feeling much better without all those rotten teeth and happily eats canned dog food or dry food that has been softened with water.
Little Muffin gets along with other dogs, large and small. She was around the old shelter cats and didn't give them a second look. Most cats are bigger than she is! Muffin is fine with children, but because of her small size would do best with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with a small dog.
Muffin likes to go for walks around the neighborhood. She can usually make it up and down the 3 steps into the house, but sometimes wants to be carried. She sleeps quietly in her crate or snuggled in a dog bed. Muffin will come running when it's dinner time. She loves to sit in a lap or beside you on the couch. If you are looking for a sweet quiet little companion, Muffin is the girl for you!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
