BIO

Tucker is just barely 1 year old and is so happy to be in a home where he can finally act like a puppy. He was rescued from an abusive situation in which the nine year old son actually told his Aunt that his parents were abusing the dog. Tucker has adjusted quite well, but still has tendencies to cower and pee when he gets nervous. We have been working on this, and it is going quite well. I never raise my voice around him. Sometimes a quick movement of the hand will startle him and he will cower. I think he is starting to realize that he is in a safe and loving home and has gained a lot of confidence.

Tucker has been an absolute joy from the moment I picked him up. He immediately bonded with me and is the most loving and snuggly little guy in the world. He gets along with my four year old male Tweenie Dachshund and my four year old female Great Dane. They all play together nicely. Tucker loves fetch and walks and taking naps under the blankets. He sleeps in bed with me every night and keeps my feet nice and warm!

Tucker loves the water!!!! I gave him a bath when we first got home and he runs to the bathroom now hoping to convince me to fill the tub again. He plays and jumps and paddles in the tub. It’s so cute. I don’t think he realizes that he’s a Dachshund ;)

Tucker would be great in a family with other dogs, or as an only dog where he can have all of your attention. He is very playful, and so loving. All he wants in the world is to give you some attention and to snuggle for hours (after playing fetch or swimming in the tub of course). He is a handsome, well-adjusted, super fun little guy and would make a great addition to any family.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
