BIO

Charlie has now been given back twice through no fault of his own. Families adopted him that didn't think through the commitment of having a dog for the next 10 years and as their lifestyles changed, they didn't want to make room for this boy and instead opted to give him back. While we appreciate them not dumping Charlie at a shelter, more thought should have been given to keeping him. So, with that stated, the next family HAS to be the last! This dog is too nice of dog to be shifted around from home to home. If you are looking for a wonder dog, then please consider Charlie #11!!

My name is Charlie and I am looking for my forever home. I love to be around people and will snuggle up with you on the couch. I love lap time, there is nothing better.  I am very smart too!!  I know sit, stay, come, heel, leave it, and go potty. I’m learning to go to my bed when someone knocks at the door or the door bell rings. While indoors I have never had any accidents which is great!!  I’m completely crate trained and eat my breakfast and sleep in a crate all night with no whining. I LOVE toys and can shred a stuffy toy in 2.5 seconds (my foster home says it’s amazing how fast I am, lol). In true doxie fashion I like to bark at everything. If you adopt me and live in an apartment you may chose to purchase a “bark collar”, no worries I’ve been completely trained to it. You can put it on without actually turning it on and I won’t make a peep. Like any doxie, I love to explore when outdoors inside my fenced in area.  I LOVE, LOVE going for long walks and my foster home even recommends at least one daily walk.  Can’t you just imagine us walking hand in paw? I get along with both male and female dogs, don’t mind cats, and love older kids (over 7). I’m completely fine being the only dog in the home, just means I get you all to myself. I’m looking for that perfect forever home. Is that you???

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
