BIO

Izzy belonged to a Dr. that had a stroke and could no longer care for his pets so they were taken to the shelter in Northern AL and rescue was contacted to see if we would take her. She did come in with Saban but they are not bonded.

Izzy likes to play so we really need her to go to a home with another young dog to play with. She gets along with everyone here but at first she had to learn her boundaries with the other dogs. Fenced in yard is a must for this little girl to be happy and playing outside. She loves a lap and when it’s time to settle down at night she’s willing to sleep on your lap or near you. She would like to be in the same room with you but she has accepted the fact here that she can’t sleep in the bedroom with foster mom and dad and sleeps in a doggie bed or couch all night long with no problem.

We were told she was deaf but can see with no problem. Please consider giving her a forever home…she’s a happy girl and deserves that.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
