Brutus is an adorable dachshund/chihuahua mix. He was one of those backyard breeder accidents that happen all to often. Brutus was left at a local shelter with several of his companions and family when to many people complained about the noise they were making.
Brutus is 11 months old with a meduim length coat. He is mostly red in color with some black ticking from his father Dusty. Brutus weighs 7-1/2 pounds and doubt he will get much over 8 pounds when grown.
Brutus loves everyone and everything, all dogs and all cats. To Brutus the world and everything in it is a toy to be played with. He loves to explore and of course chew on anything that looks delectable. When he winds down he loves to be held and give tons of kisses. He is used to sleeping cuddled up tight next to his foster mom in bed at night.
Brutus needs another small dog in his new home to play with. He is good with all dogs and fine with young children. Brutus is very close to be being 100%housebroken, he follows the other dogs outside and counts on a daily routine. Brutus is crate trained but not for long periods of time.
Brutus has been neutered and given all vaccines. He was heartworm negative and on heartwom and flea prevention. Brutus will be a great companion for any family or person. If you can give Brutus a stable loving home please e-mail his foster parents at oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Brutus.Preference will be given to North Carolina applicants but applications from South Carolina and Virginia will also be considered.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
