Update, 10-30-14:

Hi its me again Sweet Pea originally known as Trisha  Just wanted to give everyone a little information on my journey…..I have now found out that there is another world outside my foster moms home and fenced in yard!  OH Boy is it large…The other day I ran right past a neighbors legs while they were coming in to visit mom and out the door I went.  I ran and ran and ran this was a lot of fun but I don't really think Mom was happy…..she kept calling my name but I was so interested in the smells and so many things to look at that I really didn't want to stop.  So after some time Mom caught up to me and snatched me in her arms and carried me home.  I cant wait to get out there again.  Anyway I now have to be watched very carefully as she calls me a runner.  Im not sure what that is but I don't think its good. Mom says I need a home with a fenced in yard.   I also so very much love  being with my other family members who are  just like me it makes me feel so secure knowing that we are all together. I think I would love to have a home with other dogs, mom says I would really do well with dogs around my own age.  Are you looking for wonderful, friendly but somewhat reserved than that would be me!

Update, 10-13-14:

Hi everyone it’s been a few weeks and I just thought I would let you all know how I am doing. I love this new world that I am experiencing.  Every day I learn & see new things.  My foster mom says I’m doing great on the leash with her.  We went to the local Farmers Market she says to get my sweet little face out there and to also get me acclimated with the world outside.  It was a little scary at first not really sure I wanted to do this but each person I meet bent down gave me a little pat on my head  and I rolled over so they could rub my stomach  Ah this really isn’t so bad I think I like this!  I have lost about a pound (see new picture) and love to run and play I’m just so happy to be out of a crate where I lived all the time. I have little accidents every once in a while but mom tells me I’m doing much better and I really am trying.  I so want everyone to be proud of me.  I’m really longing for my forever home…. my foster mom says just be patient there is a family that will want and love me forever.  So will you please be my family??? I’m waiting.

Hi my name is Trisha but my foster mom calls me Sweet Pea, that's cause she keeps telling me how sweet I am.  I am new to my foster home and get along very well with the other doxies in the pack.  I come from a puppy mill so I am a little timid at times.  I so much enjoy the new found freedom of the yard and love to roll around in the grass!  I am just learning to walk on that thing attached to my neck that she calls a leash I think I’m getting it but it will take a little more time.  I do great in the house but need to be taken out on a schedule so I can potty….I so want to get this right and be a good dog!   And guess what I found a great big bed that I can stretch out on and burrow under the covers.  I also love my new soft doggie bed  Ah this is life……but Im missing one thing, that forever home, will you help me find it and perhaps consider taking me home?  I will love you unconditionally I promise.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
