BIO: Larry was given up because the owners female got pregnant accidently by a PB male dachshund. She had two puppies but he decided to keep the other one but was looking for a home for Larry so we said we’d be happy to find Larry just the right home. You must have the time to properly housetrain Larry. He does great when you keep him on a schedule but he doesn’t know enough yet to let you know when he has to go out BUT he will wake you up in the middle of the night if you let him sleep with you to tell you he has to go potty, he does that with his foster mom now. He has sharp teeth so when he starts to chew on something that he isn’t supposed to you must be willing to redirect him, not scold. He’s very smart, picked up the doggie door here in no time, likes to go outside and run and play then crashes for a 2-3 hour nap. He’s a good eater, no picky but no free feeding he could get chunky if allowed to do that. We think he’s going to be a big boy when full grown of about 15-17 lbs and he’s a sturdy boy now nothing wimpy about him!

Larry is a happy boy doesn’t know strangers and the person that is approved to adopt him must keep him socialized with strangers, kids and other dogs so he’ll grow up to be a well-rounded little guy.

Please do not ask us to adopt to you and you to give him as a Christmas gift, we don’t do dogs as Christmas gifts. We will not transport him before Christmas so the next transport dates would be Dec 6th or Jan 3rd no exceptions unless you want to travel to get him IF approved.

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Larry.....AL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
