BIO:

Benny came from a very rural shelter in Moulton, AL where he was turned in because his family was moving and could not take him. We said we’d take him to save him from certain death. We were shocked when we got him and saw how beautiful he is. He is a small standard dachshund with a gorgeous deep red coat. When you take this boy for a walk people will stop and stare. He’s a show stopper!

Benny is a little hand shy at first meeting so you won’t want to tower over him to pick him up but if you get down to his level or sit down he’ll be just fine and come up to you to be loved on. We are working on the hand shyness.

When Benny first came he was more attached to the foster mom cause she is around more than foster dad but he’s getting better each day.

Benny gets along well with both male and female dogs in the home but we do not know about cats. We would like to see Benny go to a home with a fenced in yard and another dog to keep him company if you have to go away. He’s fine crated or uncrated then gone.

With love and patience Benny will make a wonderful family pet for a family or a single person, but I can tell you whomever he attaches himself too he will be loyal till the end.

Please consider a standard dachshund they are more laid back than the mini’s or tweenie’s but just as sweet.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
