BIO:

Stella is a 10 lb. love bug. She came to AADR in June 2014 after being down for an undetermined amount of time, and had surgery in August 2014. She is now able to walk slowly, in a wonky gait, on non-skid surfaces like carpet, grass, or concrete. She also has a cart for long walks. She still drops and drags her back legs when she gets in a hurry, probably partly out of habit, and because she can get around very quickly this way. Stella will potty outdoors, but needs to wear a diaper inside to avoid accidents. Stella knows when she needs to go potty and knows when she is going. I occasionally manually express her bladder to make sure she is emptying. Stella gets along well with our 3 other female dachshunds, and ignores the larger dogs that visit our home, once she is accustomed to them. She loves to cuddle and be touched, and loves having her neck and chest scratched. She loves treats and the beach. She hasn’t been tested with cats,  or children, but would probably be fine with calm, older children. If you want a sweet, funny, loving companion, Stella is the girl for you.

More about Stella.....CT

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
