BIO:

Thelma came from a family that could no longer care for her because of health issues. They found a home for their other dog but not Thelma so they reached out to rescue. She was scared at first but has adjusted well and is even playing with some of the other foster dogs. She does seem to prefer foster dad but foster mom is ok too when foster dad is not around or his lap is full. She loves to go outside in the fenced-in yard and for sure if you are out there too. She’ll follow you from room to room to keep tabs on you and see what you are up to.

We think she was either “free fed” or over fed so she’s got some weight to lose. Probably another 2 to 2.5 lbs and she’ll be right where she needs to be. If she has not gotten down to that weight we will send her Science Diet Metabolic with her with instructions but also whomever does adopt her will need to continue to monitor her weight so she doesn’t get over weight again and put extra stress on the back because she’s got those short little legs that so many people love.

She wasn’t quite sure about the doggie door when she first came but now uses it like a champ and would just need a refresher when going to her new home (just needs a schedule). She has double cartilage in her ears that’s why they don’t lie flat but please don’t let that stop you from adopting this sweet girl after all beauty is only skin deep!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
