8 pounds of pure delight and love is what you would get if you adopt Sweet Pea. She was a companion of Rascal’s who is also on the website. They found themselves homeless when the owner moved out.
Sweet Pea is a precious black and tan smooth estimated to be about a year old and weighing 8 pounds. Sweet Pea is very petite who gets lost in a crowd of tweenie size dachshunds. Sweet Pea enjoys playing with the other dogs but only if she initiates the play. She has a very passive temperament and would rather be with her human or supervising the other dogs. She will be a little timid when meeting new people but overcomes her fear quickly. Sweet Pea has had no problem being around multiple dogs big and small. Since Sweet Pea has never been alone she should be placed in a home with another small dog, preferably a dachshund for company.
Sweet Pea is not house broken but is a work in progress. She likes being taken outside rather then doing it on her own or using the doggie door.  Sweet Pea will be where ever her human is; she will follow you room to room rather then play with another dog. But she does like having another dog for company. She loves snuggling under the covers of the big bed at night and hates having someone walk on top of her. Sweet Pea enjoys being held and carried around which is no problem at her weight. There are no cats in Sweet Pea’s foster home but feel she would do alright with one. Sweet Pea has not been around children that we know of but feel she would do alright with older children who know how to respect a dog space.

Sweet Pea has recently been spayed and brought current on her vaccines. She is on heartworm and flea preventative. She is crate trained and microchipped.

If you can give this sweet girl a forever home then please consider adopting her. Please e-mail her foster parents at oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com  or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Sweet Pea.  Preference will be given to North Carolina applicants but applications from South Carolina and Virginia will also be considered.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
