BIO:

Libby was bounced around a couple homes from the time she was a puppy until she came to her last owner. Sadly, that owner wanted to put Libby to sleep because she looked ill. A fellow rescuer asked the family if she could find Libby a dachshund rescue so Libby’s life would be spared. We agreed immediately to take Libby.

We think Libby was suffering from the stress of being left in the home of the owner and someone only going in three times a day to let her out. She had some hair loss on her ears and around her head but now that we’ve had her for a couple of weeks, the hair is growing back in and she’s a happy girl, especially when she gets to sleep in the big bed.

We also think that Libby has some allergies. We have her on Hydroxyzine 25mg for a month and grain free food to see if that helps her. If she would need to stay on the Hydroxyzine then that would need to be something you’d have to discuss with your vet.

What we do know is Libby gets along with all the other dogs here in the foster home. She loves to sit/lay on your lap and LOVES attention. We think she’s had a rough start and the short end of the stick with her last owner, but we’re going to see that her next home is going to be her last home - that was our promise to her.

We’d love to see her with a fenced in yard and another dachshund to keep her company when you can’t be there with her. How about it??  If you are interested in Libby please apply today!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
