Update:  After having Sprocket for several months his foster mom thinks he really needs to have a brother or sister to play with.  He is full of energy and wants to play for hours.  He also will play outside for hours at a time, with or without his playmate.  He is young and full of life and loves to play with toys and other dogs.  Sprocket is doing great with potty training with the doggy door.  He would not do well locked in a house while owners worked, unless they could check on him at lunch and he had access to the go outside when he needed to go.  He also does not do well with younger children. He will continuously bark at them and run away from them (never trying to bit tho).

Sprocket came in with 3 other dachshunds from a back yard breeder in northern AL. Right after he came in he got very sick along with the other three dogs. Sadly that’s what happens when people don’t give shots to their dogs when they are puppies. We pulled him through but he had a long road to go. He was sick with kennel cough and upper respiratory infection. But he’s all better now and gaining weight and is a happy boy. He gets along with all the foster brothers and sisters and really likes to play with anyone that wants to play with him. He loves lap time and would be a great addition to any family that has a fenced in yard and the time and patience to show him how to be a pet. We have him on a strict bathroom schedule and he’s doing well. He sleeps with the other dachshund on the couch at night but would also be confined to a gated room or x-pen and that would be only until he was completely potty trained. These dogs didn’t come from a good situation but with your desire to RESCUE ONE then he’ll be the pet he was meant to be. Please, help him, he’ll give you years of love and devotion and isn’t that why we have pets in the first place to help them as much as they help us?

More about Sprocket....TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
