BIO: don't let distance stand in your way of adopting this sweet girl we'll help with transport!
Pumpkin was dumped at a shelter because they said she was not good with kids. We are guessing not small children but children that are 10+ yrs.
Pumpkin is friendly to adults and loves to ride in a car or go for walks. We think she’d be better being an only dog because she really doesn’t like to share human attention but we are working on that. She definitely likes a fenced in yard and enjoys the company of her person. Since she’s been here she is learning to accept the companionship of other dachshunds so if you are looking for another companion or you’re just looking for a companion Pumpkin would certainly fit that bill.
She does appear to be housebroken and will either use the doggie door or will go out when we open the door to go outside. She does great on a leash and LOVES to go for rides so she’d make a great companion for an retired person.
If you have more questions about Pumpkin please contact her foster mom.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
