Hobie Update, 6-30-15:
Can you saw WOW!  Hobie is now a svelte 13 pound dog (from over 23) and loving his new body.  His energy is boundless.  He will jump with joy to greet you when you come home, then entice you to play fetch with him with whatever toy is closest.  He loves to carry around his squeaky friend (one of many that he enjoys).  He is a follower and he will be where you are.  He loves to play with his foster buddy, Blu, keeping themselves entertained for hours.  He would enjoy a brother or sister to be with, but would do well by himself as well.  Hobie is very alert and lets you know if someone is here.  For new people, it is good to give him a few minutes to get calmed down, but he loves everyone.   He sleeps well and listens when is told it is time for bed, whether it is in the big bed with you or in his own bed on the floor.  Hobie has behaved very well around kids old enough to leave him be.  A home with a fenced in yard and dog door would be his dream home, but as long as he gets exercise he would love to be anywhere.  How can you resist that face?  He can be packed and ready to go in a moment’s notice.  Won’t you be the one to give him the forever home that he needs?

Hobie has blossomed since being in foster care, he loves to play with the younger dogs and he loves playing with balls.

Previous:  Do you like a project? A challenge? Well let Hobie be your project. He came into us on the 19th of Feb at 23.4 lbs and to date, he is about 16 lbs but still has about 2 more to go. He’s a wonderful dog, fun loving, loves to play but will also play by himself. He will sleep in a doggie bed on the floor in your bedroom. He’ll alert to you to any intruder or strange noise or quietly snore the night away. He’s housebroken to a doggie door or will go to the door when he wants out. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to go for walks and will get so excited when you bring out the leash. He will also be fine with a fenced in yard (no off leash, please).

Sadly Hobie’s previous owner had to move West to be with her son and she had no family or friends to take Hobie on the East coast so she reached out to rescue and begged us to take him.  If we hadn't, he was shelter bound and we know he would have been euthanized because no one would have wanted an overweight dog.  We also don’t think he would have been able to stand it being in the shelter, so we saved him.

For a Chiweenie, he has very short legs and all the more important for us/you to get the rest of the weight off him.

He’s a great couch potato too when you wanna be or he’ll follow you all over the house too, helping with chores.

Please consider him, the one thing he has going for him is his loyalty to his owner, it can’t be beaten.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
