BIO:

Gibbs was given up by his owner in TN when she had a life change that was going to leave him alone for too many hours. Sadly, we think she had been a free-feeder and Gibbs loves to eat so he became over-weight very quickly. So, we started him on diet food and are working with him to lose the extra weight he’s put on. We think he needs to be 15-16 lbs., that would put him at an ideal weight.

Gibbs loves his foster mom and follows her everywhere. It took him a while to get used to the other fosters in the home, but he’s getting there and has started to play with the other dogs. He loves balls and toys.

Gibbs was with a cat at his other home so a home with a cat would be great, and he was used to being alone during the day so he could be an only dog or with another dog.

He has a summer cut but his hair is growing back and he’s going to have a beautiful coat when fully grown out.

Gibbs loves to go for a walk on a leash so if you need a buddy to take walks or jog with, Gibbs is the man. Please consider him, he’s a great dog and deserves a home soon.

More about Gibbs.....MD

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
