Update, 08-08-15:

Sugar came from TX where she was dumped at a shelter.  Sugar is just what her name says, she is sooo sweet! And don’t let her age fool you. She’s still got a lot of spunk and playfulness left in her!!

She does very well with a doggy door but before we got one she still did well as long as you kept her on a schedule.  She gets along great with the other dogs in the foster home and we think she would benefit from having a brother or sister to keep her company when you are unable to be home with her. We aren’t sure about cats so we’re going to say no since many of these dachshunds see the fun in the chase if the cat is afraid of them. She does great with kids though and is content to sleep in her bed beside the big bed until the wee hours of the morning and then she sneaks in the bed while you’re sleeping.

Sugar is a quiet girl unless someone else starts to bark, then she’ll join in to bark at the wind or someone that comes to the door. She was kind of stand-offish at first and preferred to lie at the other end of the couch. It took her a while but she is now quite comfortable lying right next to her foster mom on the couch. Still not much of a lap dog but she’ll follow you around and roll over when you reach down to pet her. I’m guessing she didn’t get much attention from her previous family.

If you’d like to know more about sweet Sugar please contact her foster mom.

Thank you for thinking of rescue for your next best friend!

More about Sugar....AL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
