BIO:

Mocha was found as a stray and taken to the animal shelter.  She was very scared and unhappy there, so AADR came to her rescue.  It didn't take her long to settle in at her foster home and she is a real sweetheart.  Mocha lost 13 teeth when she had her dental cleaning, but she feels much better and has no problem eating dry dog food.  She is in excellent health.

Mocha walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood.  In the house she usually snoozes in her favorite dog bed or sits quietly in a lap.  She is housebroken, but if left for extended periods will use a pee pad.  When foster mom gets home from work Mocha is at the door wagging happily and ready to go out.  At night she hops right into her crate and sleeps quietly all night.  She would be happy to sleep with her people too.

Mocha gets along well with other friendly dogs and even shares a dog bed sometimes.  She has not been around cats, but can be introduced to some if needed.  She is a mild mannered girl, so she would probably be fine with them.  She is nervous around new people, but quickly warms up to them.  She would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her.

If you are looking for a happy little lady to brighten your home, Mocha is your girl!

More about Mocha.....MD

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
