My name is Torrie and I was a former puppy mill breeder dog. Luck was with us when our breeder decided to go out of business giving many dogs a chance at the good life.

Torrie is a solid black smooth mini weighing only 10 pounds. She was, of course, very frighten of her new surroundings when she first came into rescue. She ran and hid from people but felt very comfortable around all the other foster dachshunds in her new home. Torrie has adjusted very well and is slowly coming out of her shell. Torrie is good with other dogs but will not tolerate a large dog. Since Torrie has never really been alone it would be best if she is adopted into a home with another small dog, preferably a submissive Dachshund, Torrie has a dominant personality. Needless to say Torrie is crate trained and working on housebreaking. She now has access to a doggie door and is doing very well with it. She still prefers if you go out with her though for potty breaks. She needs a home where she can be put on a regular routine which would help her on the way to house breaking.

Torrie realized quickly that being in a foster home and having the freedom to roam a backyard, soak up the sun while lying in grass, having heat and air conditioning was far better then her previous accommodations. She now loves to snuggle and be held often, she is always reaching up for someone to pick her up and cuddle in someone’s arms. She enjoys the luxury of sleeping in her foster parent’s bed at night and is reluctant to leave it in the morning. Torrie would be good with older children who are used to being around a small dog and respect its space. A cat is questionable since no cats are in the foster home. Torrie is not leash trained so she needs a fenced in yard for safety and sunbathing.

Torrie has recently been spayed. She is now current on her vaccines, heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea prevention. Torrie is microchipped and also has had her teeth cleaned.

If you can offer Torrie the pampered life she deserves please e-mail her foster parent’s oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com  or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Torrie. You will need to travel to NC to pick her up once approved to adopt.

More about TORRIE

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
