BIO: Up-date:

I came from a North Carolina puppy mill and have been with AADR since November 28, 2015.   I have been in my new Foster Home in Michigan since December 13, 2015.  I really like it here even with the cold weather.  I love playing with my foster brother and sisters.  I have learned to chase and bark at squirrels, use the doggie door, cuddle on laps and sleep in the BIG BED.  This is so much more fun than living in a puppy mill.  All I want/need for 2016- is my Forever home.  Even though I only have four teeth (canines), I love to get my Foster Moms attention by tugging on her pant leg and enjoy playing tug-of-war with my foster sister.  I never realized playing could be so much FUN!!

I need some extra help with the house breaking.  So I need a family who is patient and willing to take the time and teach me the right way to do things.  I love people, don’t bark much and am very gentle.  I have no food/fear aggression, submissive urination or separation anxiety.   I would really like another doxie to learn from and play with and a fenced in backyard would be a plus.  If you are looking for your Best Friend - Start the New Year out right:

BIO:

Rachel came from a breeder in NC when she was thinning her stock. Considering she is a breeder dog she is pretty socialized and happy. You will need to go slow with her at first so you don’t startle her but she wants the attention and love so you’ll be able to win her over quickly.

Unfortunately when Rachel came to us she had grade 4 dental disease and lost all but her canine’s but that doesn’t stop her from eating all you have to do is soften her hard food with water before she eats. She has no problem with that.

She wants you to know that she’s working very hard on housetraining but she needs your help and patience but she’s eager to please so please don’t yell at her for possibly having an accident, remember she was allowed to go potty in her house when she was a breeder dog so this “pet” stuff is all new to her.

With all this being said we want her to have a fenced in yard with another well socialized dog that she can learn from. Being home most of the time would be a plus but not necessary.

This beautiful girl won’t be available long so get your pencils sharpened and start filling out that application asap.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
