BIO: Hi my name is Brittany and I came in from Western KY when my owner left her husband and left me and 5 other dachshunds with him. He didn’t want us either so we were not well cared for but finally he got in touch with AADR to see if they would take us. It really was the best day when a member got us because we knew then we would not be neglected any longer. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t mean to us but he ignored us and we got no attention and as you well know, we Dachshunds love attention so I’m kinda an attention hog now. I love, love lap time. I would lay in your lap 24/7 if you’d let me and when I don’t have a lap then give me a big fluffy blanket and I’ll burrow in that till the cows come home!!

I only have two very minor drawbacks….I want you to go outside with me when I go potty because I want you to be proud of me and I have my right eye that has dry eye so I have to have meds to put in that eye. One drop twice a day and my eye looks great. I will be coming with a supply of it when you adopt me, the rescue is good that way they take great care of us foster doggies.

Brittany will need to be on a strict potty schedule and when you leave either a crate with a big fluffy blanket or an enclosed area would work great for her. She’d be fine as an only dog or with another male dog. She came in quite chunky so you’ll have to monitor her weight; we’ve worked to get her weight down and now she needs to maintain. This little girl would be great for an older couple that wants a quiet girl who is low maintenance and just wants a lap to lay in….fenced in yard would be best too.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
