update:

Here's a little update about Truffles. "Truffles is a wonderful little girl and she is very well-behaved. She has a ton of energy and loves to go on long walks around Alexandria. She is potty-trained, sleeps in her bed next to her foster dad's bed no problems, and gives no fuss about being in the crate. Her foster dad also thinks she would do well with smaller children that respects her space. Everywhere Truffles goes she gets a smile, tongue out, tail wagging and eager to please. Did I mention she loves to play fetch?!"

Hi I’m Truffles! I came from southern AL and was given up when my owner could no longer care for me. I came in with another older female but we are not bonded. As a matter of fact I want to be the only dog so please don’t get another dog if you adopt me... I will give you all the love you need and then some. I’m eager to please.

I came in with a lot of hair missing due to a flea allergy but it’s growing back and I’ll have pretty fur when it’s all back in. AADR spayed me and cleaned my teeth and I feel so much better.

My foster mom tried to take some pictures of me but I’m pretty camera shy and just wanted to snuggle. If you are close and want to come see me at the Dachshund Halfway House, that can be arranged and I’ll steal your heart, I promise.

Oh, and could I please have a fenced in yard that I can check out every day to make sure nothing tried to come along and take it, please-please?

Is Not Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
