BEING FOSTERED GA

OSCAR 6 was an owner turn in to another rescue and they were not familiar with the breed so called us to take him. It takes a while for Oscar to get trust in you but once he does he's all yours. He will go in a crate to eat and when you go away, has to have a fenced in yard with a possible dogie door and someone with the time and patience to work with him until he trust you. He is fine with my husband and I but it took a while. We want whomever is interested in him to be fairly local so we won't have to go far to do the homevisit and bring him along or for you to return him if it doesn't work out. You must be DACHSHUND SAVVIE to adopt Oscar. He is too nice of a dog to stay in foster care forever but we don't mind waiting until the right family comes along.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
