UPDATE: 4/22/16:
Hi everyone, I am Sparky. I am a handsome 8 year old miniature black and tan smooth coat Dachshund. I have been in my foster home for a few months and am looking for my furever home. I was surrendered after my owner passed away and I had lived in a crate outside for about a year before coming into rescue.
I have been doing great in my foster home, I get along with all the sweet girl doggies and the cats. I like to be the center of attention and do not like sharing attention with other male dogs. I am trained to a doggie door and/or a schedule and walk well on the leash up to three or four miles a day if you have the time. I am also crate trained and love spending time with my foster mommy and aunt.
I love playing with toys and would do great in a home with a fenced in back yard. If I sound like the perfect Dachshund for you, please email my foster mom and fill out an application at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
