Bailey (SC) - RIP
Bailey came from South Carolina into rescue with AADR December 2013. Bailey had previously had a successful back surgery. We took Bailey in and had him in foster care when he begin to show signs of problems with his neck. After consultation and examination, Bailey was scheduled for surgery to relieve the extreme discomfort he was experiencing. Sadly, it was discovered that he was suffering from Spinal Degenerative Myelopathy. Bailey could not be successfully removed from the ventilator following surgery and he crossed rainbow bridge after far too short a time with us. Bailey is sadly missed by all of AADR, especially his foster mom Tracy who loved and cared for him while with us.

Bianca
Bianca - Adopted 2010 - Cross Rainbow Bridge 2014: Bianca came into my life from AADR in late winter 2010. Adopting her was one of my first "grown-up" actions after graduating from college. She was my constant companion. At the time I was working at a boarding and daycare kennel, and she went to work with me every day! Bianca loved to house sit with me, and made several long road trips as my co-pilot. She loved our little farm and was very curious about our horses and goats. Bianca loved to go for walks by the river way behind our house! I will miss her dearly. She slept under the covers, snuggled close, and now my arms seem so empty. Another "grown-up" lesson that Bianca is teaching me, how to cope with her loss, and how to make room in my heart for another set of little paws someday.

Cookie Man Mann
RIP Sweet Cookie Man Cookie was adopted in 2005 after entering rescue. He reported bit a young child and was to be euthanized. We loved him for nearly 8.5 years before he succumbed to cancer. Cookie passed away Wednesday Jan 22 at 10:45AM. We were on our way to the vet when he passed in my arms. Cookie was loved by everyone who met him. All my grandchildren looked forward to seeing Cooking and getting his attention for love. He always had a kiss for everybody willing to let him get close enough. He loved riding in the truck and going to the park. Loved walking around the block and meeting new neighbors. We only wish the call to the Rainbow Bridge had taken longer to come. Even though we knew it was near it still was something we did not want to see.

Brodie
In 2007 I adopted an older dachshund SSDR named Brodie. He was fostered by Jenny Upchurch. He turned out to be the best dog ever. He was adorable, friendly, happy go lucky, affectionate, and the most loyal dog I ever had the privilege of living with, and I had some great dogs before him.All of my neighbors loved him, and two neighbors who didn't have dogs of their own bought biscuits and would give him a MilkBone each time they saw him walk by. I wanted to let you know that on Fri., Dec. 13 I helped Brodie cross the Rainbow Bridge. He had several medical issues, including Cushing's disease, hearing loss, diminished vision, a large tumor that grew rapidly over the last two months. That day in addition to his recent sense of confusion, he showed other signs that the time had come. It broke my heart to do it, but his vet felt he had little quality of life at this point. I want to thank you for allowing me to be Brodie's mother. I will never forget him. You can see him and all my other pets on my website www.dianescritters.com.

Gidget
(Nov 6, 2013) -- Just letting you know we lost Gidget on Friday. She had a stroke a little over two weeks ago, and was not able to recover. She spent most of this time at the vet although they did let her come home most nights. They did everything they could but in the end it was not enough. She will be missed deeply. She was going on 17 years old, and was still a puppy. She enjoyed her trips outdoors. She was an “outdoorsy kind of gal”. She loved the sunshine but for the last year and a half she had to wear Doggles when in the sun, due to her cataracts. She hated them, but loved being outside. If you remember Gidget was one of the first pups you adopted out after you went solo in 2004. After we got Sunshine and Buddy from you in January, we decided on Gidget in September, because she was soooo cute. Although when we met you in Asheville that night and you took her from her cage, I looked at Larry and said “What have we done”. At 7 years old I was expecting a calm pup like Sunshine and Buddy. She was WILD. And until she got cataracts she stayed that way. She was so full of life and energy. She was the greatest joy to us for almost 10 years. I thank you for her. She is now pain free with Sunshine, Buddy and Miss Gertie, running and enjoying the next phase of life. Pepper, formally known as Precious, is doing good. She knows something is not right. She will go to Gidget’s bed a couple of times a day to sniff around. I have caught her twice digging in the covers, like she is trying to find Gidget. I think she will be fine. She misses her too. Thanks again for allowing us the joy of having Gidget in our lives. And for Sunshine, Buddy and Gertie. All who are still greatly missed. Their pictures are all over the house, so not a day goes by without me thinking of each of them. Thanks again for all you do Jennifer, Larry & Pepper
