Mia(previously Fiona)
After waiting three years after my dachshund of 15 years passed, I saw Mia’s (formally Fiona) photo on AADR’s Facebook page. Two other families were interested in adopting her, but luckily, my husband, other doxie, and I, won out. The first few weeks were “interesting,” but Mia soon settled in and made our home whole again. To say she was a lovable snuggler is an understatement. To say she loved food, even more of an understatement. To say she was everything we could have hoped for, the biggest understatement. Unfortunately, after 18 short months, Mia was unexpectedly diagnosed with advanced hemangiosarcoma (there were no signs until the very end). We had to make the heart and gut-wrenching decision to let her pass. She leaves a void in our home, and we will miss her more than we ever thought possible, but I treasure the time she gave to us and what we were able to give her as her last loves. We’ll miss you forever, little bean.
Maggie....RIP
Maggie (aka Morgan) Lendzinski 12/6/2022
Maggie came to us Mother's Day 2013. She had been rescued by AADR from a puppy mill. She was skinny and fragile. She quickly gained strength and muscle, learning to play, walk on a leash, and potty outside. Most importantly, she learned she was allowed to be comfortable and well fed, she learned to trust and be loved.
When we went for walks, she took a toy with her; it was like she was bragging to the neighborhood that she had a family and toys! When I cooked or baked, she pulled her bed through the house to be in front of the oven where she waited attentively for a morsel to fall from the counter.
During the summer of 2022, she stopped walking due to severe arthritis; so we carried her. She loved to snuggle (especially with Reilly). On December 6, she let us know it was her time to go to the Rainbow Bridge. I stayed home from work to snuggle with her and give her all her favorite treats. That afternoon, Bill held her close, whispering in her ear, as we helped her to the Rainbow Bridge.
We are so thankful AADR allowed us to be her fur-ever family for her last 10 years. Reilly and Bessie miss her desperately.
Until we meet at the Bridge, Mommy and Daddy will love you and miss you, Maggie!
CoCo....RIP
We lost our boy CoCo today. His little body finally gave out on his spry crazy attitude!
Named CoCo by a 3 year old in the family who pulled him from the shelter, we also called him CoCo Bean, Beaner, but most lovingly “Cracky”. You could say because of the shape of his rear end, but it was really because he had crazy energy. He was not going to be left behind! He would go 110% and then crash, curled up fast asleep. It wasn’t long ago, he was still coming in from outside, would run a race through the house and up to bed!
In 2008, CoCo was rescued in Missouri after months of starving and no care. We took him in to foster, but the vet found, besides his frostbite and emaciation, he had every worm except heartworm. We needed to get this dog healthy before adopting him out - at least 6 weeks! Well, guess who fell in love and ended up adopting him???
Harley loved him and they were inseparable - we even kenneled them together when we weren’t home! When Harley died in 2020, CoCo had separation anxiety like none other. We fostered again, adopting Penny a couple years ago. They loved each other and snuggled together constantly.
We are all heartbroken and the house is so quiet. I was sure as we came home, I saw a cloud in the shape of a dog running.
Run free sweet boy - your brother Harley welcomed you home once again, I’m sure. Mom and Dad
Buddy Coffey RIP
Buddy came to live with us about 5 yrs ago. He was a very unique dog. He loved to sit in our laps and give kisses. He would do this on our feet, legs, hands and face. He was the best face cleaner we have ever seen. He also had a very commanding presence. He became the boss of our other dogs. He decided when it was time for all the dogs to go in their crates in the morning and at night. He was also a very tough and fearless dog. He ran many a big deer and squirrels away from our front door. If not for being on a leash, he probably would still be chasing them.
We loved every minute that he was with us and he will be missed dearly. Venetia Coffey
Mya RIP
Thank you, All American Dachshund, for bringing me Mya. The day I picked her up, she brought so much joy and love into my life. She peacefully passed away yesterday from dementia and other health conditions. Eight beautiful years, and a piece of my life left me yesterday. Everyone in my family is heartbroken over our loss. Even my neighbors will miss her sweet personality and loving nature. I wanted to let Ida and you know. Thanks again!
Best wishes,
Tara Clevenstine
