Happy Tales
Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...
Harley's Brave Journey Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Loui....CA
Hi we rescued Louie from a Sacramento listing in the summer of 2010. He was about 3 and just neutered days before we picked him up. As it turned out he had a bad problem with marking the house and biting under certain circumstances. We almost gave up on him after two serious unprovoked bites. With the help of one of your more experienced members we kept working on it.
He was found as a stray on the street very thin and, understandably so, food aggressive. I guess they were going to put him down until ADR stepped in. His eyes are what brought us to him they were so much like my Tanner that I had lost 6 months earlier. We were afraid with his temperament about allowing him around our grandkids, but he loves kids and is protective of them, just do not try to separate him from them at bed time. We feel he must have had abuse from his original owner, but we can now reach for him and pet him and he does not shy or growl. He is currently 90% house trained and understands if he slips - a diaper is in order for a few hours –he does hate it but it gets the message across. With lots of kindness he is becoming much more loving and likes being loved on. We have had to stay very strong with him when he bears his teeth or grows and have learned his triggers. After 1 and ½ years we finally have the upper hand, and rarely experience this bad behavior. It took about a year for us to experience his “ok I get it and trust you” change. He is a real cute little guy as you can see from this photo with Santa. Hope you can use it for your next years calendar.
Thank You,
Suzanne A. Saucier

Rankin...PA
Thank you for checking in. Rankin has a new name...Ridley. He is an absolute doll and definitely in his forever home. He travels with us a lot between our homes in Philadelphia and Connecticut. He's gotten used to walks in the city with so many sites and sounds. Between the other dogs being walked, the horses pulling carriages full of tourists and the noisy cars, he's quite comfortable. He also loves to run and play in our fenced in yard in CT and walk along the beach.
Our veterinarian said that Ridley had to develop muscle in his hind legs which explains the wiggle in his walk. He suspected that he wasn't allowed to roam freely before he was rescued by AADR, but now he's quite strong. Not much of a jumper so he barks when he wants to get on the sofa or taken down from the sofa. This is good, because he'll never hurt himself jumping off and on furniture.
He's still a bit shy with strangers and definitely a mama's boy even though he's home with his dad all day long. My husband says that Ridley stands in our foyer in complete darkness when it's time for me to come home. He just stands there facing the door waiting for me to arrive. You can imagine the greeting I get when I come home! Such a joy.
We've told many people about AADR and have encouraged them to adopt rather than buy. Our aunt will be applying soon as one of her Schnauzers has cancer and she can't bear to have just one dog. Even our veterinarian was amazed that we could find such a special dog as our Ridley.
Thank you again for checking in. I browse the AADR site often to see the progress of the doxies I've come to know by reading their bios.
Attached are photos of Rid. Please feel free to post on the site. I'll look forward to him on the AADR site.
Regards,
Paula
p.s. He is fairly housebroken. An occasional accident, but that's usually when we didn't pick up on his signal to take him out.
CONNIE....MD
Dear Diane,
I just can't thank you enough for my precious Kitzell. She is smart, happy, energetic, cuddly, laid-back - and the best little love-sponge I could possibly wish for!
She looks almost like a stretched-out rabbit, running and leaping through our gigantic back yard. She sees me pulling up grass from between our patio bricks - and tries to pull up grass herself, to help me.
I made her a coat, and she not only tolerated the try-ons, she loves wearing it. And she does get cold easily - a by-product of her mange, I suspect, which left her with thinner fur than usual. That's fine - all the more reason for me to knit her a wardrobe!
She discovered our parrot - had one encounter and now ignores bird. She gets a chew toy - the other dogs take it from her and she doesn't really object.
Kitzell is love-oriented, not food-oriented, thank God.
You have given me one of the most precious beings I've ever had the honor to love.
Thank you!!
Sincerely,
Dot Pecson
DENTON.....TN
Denton was adopted to Marie and her Husband two years ago in Nashville, TN. He went down in the back last October and they had surgery right away but he's still not able to walk but still trying. Thank you Marie for loving and caring for Denton all that you have for this precious boy.
Diane,
Thank you for Denton's red, squeak toy! He squeaked it all the way home and we heard it squeaking in his kennel all night. He wouldn't eat or go out this AM w/ out it by his side! Too funny.
I'm attaching a pic of him hanging out in the yard in his wheels if you want to add it to your site. Also, we bought his wheels from Eddie's Wheels which we found online.
