BIO: Hello everyone, my name is Spencer! I currently live in a wonderful foster home in Vermont, but I am looking very forward to finding a Fur-Ever Home to call my own. I was dropped off at a shelter by my previous owners because I was just too cute for them and they couldn’t handle it. I was picked up by some wonderful volunteers from All American Dachshund Rescue and they told me that they would find me a home that could handle my cuteness. I was heartworm positive when they found me, but thanks to the wonderful doctors and a medication regimen, I am completely clear and ready for your home.
I am an extremely playful puppy and full of so much energy. I enjoy having a fully fenced-in yard that I can run and run in to burn off all my energy (and you’ll appreciate it as well as it helps me sleep better at night).
My foster dad says that I am a Dachshund mix. I’m not sure what that means, but he says I have Pug in me. Either way, he says I am very adorable. My under-bite makes me look like I am smiling all the time. I really am because I am always happy. My ideal new home would have other dogs that like to play with me. I get along with most dogs, as long as they remember I might be smaller than them. I do very well in my crate and quickly settle in and sleep all night without making a peep. If you want me to, I will sleep very well on the big bed with you all curled up next to you. I go on walks really well on a leash. When it’s feeding time, I am really good, and tend to stand on my back legs and dance. I really like other people and meet everyone with tail wagging and all the kisses they can handle. I have a very loud voice that I love to greet you with when you get home. If you live in an apartment, I have to warn you that I might be too loud and get you in trouble. I do enjoy talking when I am playing with my humans or other dogs.
If you have any other specific questions about me, please contact my foster parents and they will be happy to talk to you about me. If you’re looking for a great addition to your family please consider me. I promise to put a smile on your face every day!
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
