BIO (7/28/2018): Hi, my name is Pumpkin! I am 7 years old, a southern gal from Georgia who is very pretty... and I know it. I am housetrained with puppy pads and going outside. I like going outside, so a fenced yard where I can chase birds and butterflies is important for me as I look for a home.
Children make me very nervous. I can't go to a house where children play. But I love playing inside with toys, snuggling with anyone with a lap and some time, and I am good with other dogs -but you might have to help me learn to interact with them! I have an enthusiastic personality and can be a little overbearing. I always appreciate respectful correction.
I was adopted by a young couple, and I had a very happy home, until they had children. The children didn’t know how to be respectful to me. Rather than work with them, and me, the couple gave me up. I don’t understand what is happening now, but if I can depend on YOU to protect me and be a strong calm influence, then I will be very happy.
Around here they say that all of this has been very hard on me. I don’t know if that is true. They say the next home I get needs to be my forever home and they are going to work very hard to get me the right family. Could you be my new forever family?
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
