JERRY was in a shelter in OH and pulled by another rescue person that saw he got down here with his partner BEN. They seemed to be bonded when they came down and do get along but do not need to be adopted together. Jerry seems to be the more needy and timid of other dogs of the two. He was more afraid when he came here but after the first couple of days he's fine now but still leery of all the fosters so a home with one other dog or as the only dog would be best for JERRY. He was very very thin when he came and still needs to put on about a couple of lbs. but then he should be at the right weight. He is not a barker, we think would be fine with cats and kids 8+ as long as they didn't scare him and would love to sleep in the big bed or be a couch potato with you while you watch the games on TV. He is UTD on all shots, heartworm neg. and on Interceptor and Frontline and is chipped. JERRY said he wants to get into his new home before the hot summer is over so please consider giving JERRY his last forever home where he doesn't have to go to that shelter place again!! We'd love to see JERRY go to a FENCED IN YARD & DOGGIE DOOR. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
