BIO:  Blue came from South Carolina when his owner could no longer care for him. Because of having to work, they could not do Blue’s physical therapy (PT) at home. Poor Blue had back surgery in February and recovered, but within a month had to have bladder stone surgery. Due to this history of bladder stones, he is on Science Diet CD. He is doing very well on the food and should continue to do well.

When Blue arrived in March, he had a bit of a wobble walk. We took him for PT and he did so well they didn’t see any need for him to come back after a month of PT.

We are now trying to find him the prefect home where he’ll be loved and continue to live out his life with his last owner. Is that you?

Our must haves for this handsome fellow include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who is home a lot to keep him on his potty schedule
  • No apartments or high-rises as he does like to bark at noises
  • Someone who understands his limitations due to recovering from back surgery - he CANNOT be allowed to do stairs or jump off of furniture/the bed

If you want to give Blue his last home and his best days, consider putting in an application and his foster mom will be happy to tell you everything about him so you can make an informed choice. Please don’t be scared off by his limitations as they don’t bother him a bit!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest but we can not get them to the West Coast so please look for dogs on your coast.
