BIO: Otis came to us with his son Harley. It is pretty obvious that these two have been together for a while. If he doesn't have his "peoples" to lie next to he will go and lay next to his son Harley. Otis is a major snuggle bug. This standard boy will follow you anywhere you go. Sitting inside he loves to be either in your lap or right next to you. At bedtime, if he knows that is where you are headed, he will beat you to the bed and burrow under the covers and await your arrival. Once he is bedded down you won't even know he is there except for the occasional snore you might hear from him. He gets along great with his foster brothers and sisters. He is also been great with our five year old little girl. His favorite thing to do outdoors is to chase the birds from one fence post to the other. When the heat starts to get to him, he heads over to the kiddie pool and takes a quick dip to cool off for another session of bird aerobics. Like is typical of most doxies he is a great traveling dog. When you are on the computer, he will be content to lie at your feet and ask for the occasional rub on the head or belly to keep him content that you still know he is there. If you have been gone any length of time he welcomes you back with as many "Otis Kisses" as he can get away with giving. During mealtime he does pretty well. He is fed in his own bowl so we aren't sure of any food aggression. He loves to play with the other puppers in the house and does really well with all of them. Sometimes he will take his kong or chew bone and just go have some "Otis time". However, all he has to hear is his name or see you look in his direction and he is ready to bounce over to you for more belly rubs and to give kisses again. We aren't sure about how he would do around cats since we don't have any and there isn't any information about his experience with them. This little guy is one of the most loving doxies we have ever known. He deserves a home that will give him all of the love and attention that he deserves. It would be nice to see Otis and Harley go to the same home since they have been together since Harley was born and they do seem to look for each other. Most play times they are playing with each other and their other foster brothers and sisters. They seem to do pretty well when not around each other. This may be that there are a lot of foster brothers and sisters to play with all the time. The only time that Otis has an accident is if he is left inside for a long time, but even then it's only some piddle. I mean we can't even hold it for a long time and you can't expect him to either. This little boy deserves a home that will lavish him with love and attention. He would do really well with a home that has a playmate or more from him to run and bounce and roll with. He is a standard boy with 100 times his size in love to give back to anyone who is willing to love him in return.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
