BIO

Introducing Oscar, a sweetheart of dachshund who lives to give kisses and tail wags to all he meets!  Oscar came from a small puppy mill / backyard breeder, but you’d never know it.  Oscar is the friendliest little man who loves life and loves attention.  He did not have the opportunity during his first 4 years to learn to walk on a leash but he is learning to do so.  He’d be best suited for a home with a fenced yard at least until his leash skills improve.   Oscar prefers to sleep on a doggy bed in the floor and he’s not a big lap baby, but he loves to be petted and be near his human(s).  He is learning to play with toys and he will sometimes take one of his foster brother’s or sister’s leash in his own mouth to try to ‘walk’ them, it’s the cutest sight!  The family who takes Oscar as their new member will get a fabulous dachshund!

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
