Buttons is a sweet little boy that was wondering the streets of rural Nashville, TN.  He is very skiddish and needs to be with someone that has patience and willing to give him time to trust them.  He bonds mostly with females, but in time will bond with males.  Buttons gets along well with his two foster brothers, but took a few weeks before he started feeling comfortable enough to play with them. He sleeps in his crate at night or in your bed burrowing deep in the covers.  He really likes his crate time, I think it makes him feel safe. He isn't into playing with toys yet, but he did play with his foster sister and brother once he got to know them.  Buttons would fit in best with a single person as a compainion or a retired couple that both were home alot. It took a few weeks to get him to snuggle up next to foster mommy, but now she gets lots of kisses and gets to rub his belly. He does well with the doggy door and going out to potty, but most the time he wants to have foster mommy go out with him, especially first thing in the morning and late evening.  He goes for walks on the leash on streets or out and about, but doesn't like to walk on the leash in the back yard to potty.  Buttons really needs someone with a patience and someone willing to take time to get to know him.  A fenced in backyard is a plus, due to not liking to be leash, however, I think he would do well if leashed to go out the front door to potty.  Buttons is absolutely beautiful and just needs his furever home.

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Buttons...TN

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
