BIO:

Hello everybody! I am Buddy, a handsome 1 year old smooth black and tan Dachshund. I weigh about 13.7 pounds so I am what the humans call a tweenie. What that means is I am in between a miniature and standard Dachshund in size. Let me tell you I am so glad I was brought to AADR. I started my life with a momma and brothers and sisters and I went to a lady who kept me in a cage. All the TIME! For 6 whole months I was always in a crate. I wanted to play and explore and smell the good smells but my human was busy and just left me there. One day a relative of hers decided to take me out of the crate and tied me to a tree instead. At least I was outside I told myself. I spent the next 6 months tied to that tree. I was really lonely and sad all the time. Then my story got out to an AADR volunteer and the lady surrendered me. This is how I was freed from that tree and being in captivity all the time!

When I was brought in, I wasn’t fixed (if I told you what happened next you’d be shocked), I had some worms but not the heart ones, needed vaccinations and my teeth cleaned. I got all up to date on everything and now I am in my foster home. Foster mom says I am cute as can be and that I am very sweet. So far I am getting along with my foster brother and sister. I am not shy at all around other humans, but I am a little skittish of other doggies when I am first introduced to them, especially other boy doggies. Foster mom says she is going to keep a close eye on me to make sure I am good and socialized before going to my furever home. Do you know what that means? I get to go on walks and the dog park every day! I am so excited and happy to move around and play and smell the good smells outside.

I am still getting to know foster mom, so we aren’t sure if I am potty trained or not, so far though I haven’t had any accidents in the house. I was a very good boy in the bath and am all nice and clean smelling. I am crate trained and ride well in the car. I also walk on the leash and won’t try and drag you around. Foster mom introduced me to the white fluff ball, Meow Kitty, I really liked the way she smelled so I kept on smelling at her! Foster mom thinks I am too interested in kitty and said I should go to a home without kitty cats. I was also introduced to humans called teenagers, I really had a good time playing with them and know I could live in a home with them without any problems. I would probably do well with kids over 5.

I am looking for my very own furever home, preferably one with a fenced in yard, because I love to run around and be free. If there is not a fenced in yard, that is ok too, as long as we can go on walks and spend time together playing. I know I came from a bad situation, but I am a good boy and foster mom said my very own furever mommy or daddy are out there and she is going to help me find them. Is that you? Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
