BIO: When Buster's owners didn't want him anymore they tossed him in a creek.  Fortunately, a kind person found him and brought him to the local animal shelter.  Buster was very thin and needed some TLC, so AADR came to the rescue.  His former owner said he is 16 years old, but he seems younger and only lost 3 teeth when he had his dental cleaning.  Buster has put on some weight and is feeling much stronger and happier than when he first arrived.  He has no health issues.  Buster is a real character.  He enjoys furry squeaky toys and will sometimes carry one around or lay in his dog bed squeaking it.  He also loves to sit in a lap or snooze in the sun.

Buster is pretty well house-trained and will use a pee pad if he can't get outside.  He sleeps quietly in his crate at night and is ready to go out first thing in the morning.  He would be happy to sleep with his people too.  Buster walks well on a leash and enjoys walks around the neighborhood.  He gets along well with other dogs.  Buster has not been around cats, but can be introduced to some if needed.  Buster would be fine with older children who understand that he needs his space.

If you are looking for a sweet older fellow who is ready for a new life, Buster is your guy!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
