Roxie RIP
An Ode to My Queen Roxie, my third little redheaded girl joined the pack on December 16, 2018. She had lovingly been fostered in Buffalo New York. Prior to her transport. I’ve received pictures of her beautiful profile and was made aware of her habit of hoarding shoes. She didn’t chew the shoes she just inhaled their wonderful aroma and kept them safe until you needed them again She quickly set herself up as the queen of the household guarding my shoes, keeping my seatwarm, and warning, the other members of the dachshund kingdom to keep their distance. My queen would warm my lap through many many hours of reading. She became quite the connoisseur of coffee. She preferred lukewarm and cream, please. Roxie flew to Florida with me in 2021 for my 65th birthday and made several new friends. RIP Roxie 4.6.08 - 8.26.23

Stubby Cooper, RIP 2023
Stubby Cooper Sweet. Sassy. Precious. Best Friend: 2006 – July 12, 2023. Stubby was the beloved Dachshund of the Cooper family for over 17 years. Stubby provided playful companionship and fun frolicking for the whole family. Stubby was courageous to brave the harsh winters of the Northeast and enjoyed fun time outside during warm weather. Stubby was a sweet, patient, funny furry family member to the Cooper family, and they will miss him greatly. The Cooper family honors and thanks Stubby for his 17 years of love, cuddles, laughs, and companionship. Stubby’s survived by Shawn, Mary, Madison and Josh – who will miss Stubby beyond words. We love and miss you, sweet Stubby.

Mr. Skittles RIP
Mr. Skittles joined our family in 2012 at the age of 5. Throughout the past 11 years he’s lived in various houses and cities in Connecticut, Northern and Southern California and Canada. He had a heart of gold. He was gentle and extremely loving. He was with us from before we even had children and my 2 kids now ages 7 and 9 were there in his last moments. He was also so patient and loving with them too. If it hadn’t been for rescues like AADR his life might have ended at age 4 instead of 16.5. He really was the best dog and will be forever missed by my whole family. Thank you for giving us the chance to love these precious dogs who always give more than they get. ❤️

Sheldon RIP 05/30/23
Hello AADR.... it is with a broken heart that I have to tell you Sheldon ( formally Tiger ) passed away 2 days ago suddenly. He was every thing I could have hoped for and more. He was well loved by every one. I don't know where 10 yrs went but they went by fast. Shelly was just 2 months away from his 15th BD. Sincerely Charles Herold

Hoss RIP sweet boy
A TRIBUTE TO DEAR HOSS Dexter and I were watching the movie “Weiner Dog” one rainy Sunday last year. I started Googling and low and behold there was Hoss up for adoption! We did a meet and greet with his foster parents in Clinton, North Carolina. After a thorough investigation by Dachshund Rescue, we were approved to take him home. I was so happy. I rushed out and got him an orthopedic bed, shipped him a Chewy package from our Westie, Emerson, and began the process of welcoming him into our family. Emerson has been with me since he was a puppy. At first, he wasn’t too happy about sharing his home and family with Hoss. They quickly bonded and became pretty close pals. Hoss would follow Emerson around the yard, and he tried to play with Emerson from time to time. Hoss didn’t care for toys. He only wanted to be loved and fed. He bonded with Dexter quickly as he was home every day. The two were pretty much inseparable. Hoss enjoyed going to the park across the street. He pranced when he walked! He was a barker (which I understand is pretty common in Dachshunds). He was ALWAYS a sweet and affectionate dog, and we will miss him dearly. He had his usual vet appointment shortly after adopting him. He later developed a heart murmur and elevated blood pressure which we were giving him medication for. Several weeks ago he just wasn’t eating and threw up. I was praying his condition was viral. I took him to his vet at Atlantic Animal Hospital. After lab work and an x-ray, we received the heartbreaking news that Hoss had an abdominal mass the size of a grapefruit. As someone once said to me, “dogs are furry heartbreakers”. He had what I hope and pray were the best 11 months of his life with us.
