Nittany (Sally)
I adopted my Nittany (formerly "Sally") from AADR on August 24, 2008 and sadly she passed exactly 90 months later on February 24, 2016 after battling cushing's disease and congestive heart failure for almost 3 years. I met Nittany while she was in foster. She had recently weaned her puppies and was a very shy and sweet little baby herself. After sitting on her foster's couch for a few minutes, she waddled over to me and climbed up my leg. I picked her up and she fell asleep in my lap. I was smitten. Nittany was my constant companion and best friend. She attended my law school graduation, my wedding, and was there when we brought my son into the world. She lived in 4 different states and even lived in Germany for the past couple of years with us. Everyone who met Nittany loved her. She was my best friend and she will forever be missed.

Alex from Canada
RIP Feb 23rd 2016: Alex When we first met he gave me the lovely smile that I soon got used to seeing. A very happy snuggle bug who wanted all the attention he could get. Here let me roll over so you can rub my belly, which I always did. He was great company for my female dachshund and they got along well. He was oh so willing to let everyone know that he was our protector, a little nip, never a bite, just to make sure you knew who the boss was. We enjoyed his barking as he really was speaking to us, I want my dinner or I want my treat when ever he came in from outside. As he got older he developed calcified discs and this sadly put him down 7 times. I was able to nurse him through them all. The 8th time was just to much for him to handle so I had to make the very hard decision that we as dog owners have to make. He has crossed over the bridge and will be forever missed. Born some time in 2002, adopted by me November 2004 and crossed over the bridge February 2016.

Zestril

Zestril's mom honored his passing through a donation in his name to the fund for Sparky, a dog needing surgery. She sent this note about her beloved boy.

"I [donated] to this fund via Paypal but I guess I missed the place where I could make the gift in memory of our beloved little Zestril, who graced our life for more than 12 years and who we had to put to sleep on January 18 following a diagnosis of end-stage pancreatic cancer. The little guy never complained and was the joy of our lives. I have attached a picture of Zestril (he's the one in the middle with the shawl over his head) with his devoted brother Zoloft, who is left to miss his best friend. Thank you for everything you do for our weiner dogs."

Scotty
Scotty's mom Cathy told us that he crossed the bridge on Wednesday, 4 November 2015. She wrote, "I adopted my Scotty 7 1/2 years ago and it has been a pleasure that they would let me be his mom. Scotty would have been 18 years old in January but with him not doing good and getting worse I had to let him go yesterday. My big boy is now over the Rainbow Bridge and running with no pain. I know some people don't understand how this hurts so much for a loss but we as Dachshund Lovers know their part of our family and will be missed. Mommy will always have you in her heart Scotty love you!
